What Is a Biewer Terrier?
The Biewer Terrier (pronounced "BEE-ver") was developed in Germany in the 1980s from Yorkshire Terriers carrying a rare piebald gene, which gives the breed its striking tri-color coat. The American Kennel Club recognized the Biewer Terrier as its own breed in 2021, in the Toy Group.

Coat, Colors and Grooming
Biewer Terriers have a long, silky coat in white, black (or blue) and gold. The coat is hair rather than fur, so it sheds very little, though no dog is completely hypoallergenic. A long coat needs daily brushing; many owners keep a shorter "puppy cut" for easier care. Regular dental care is especially important for small breeds.
Temperament
Despite their size, Biewer Terriers are brimming with energy, affection and playful spirit. They are loyal, love being with their people, and adapt as well to a country home as to a cozy apartment. With gentle handling they do well with older children; very young children should be supervised with any toy breed.
Training and Exercise
Biewers are bright and respond well to short, positive training sessions with treats and praise. Their exercise needs are modest: a daily walk and indoor play keep them happy. Start house-training early and stay consistent, as with most small breeds.
